Six months after the attacks, twin beams of light illuminated the night sky for the first time evoking the spirit and brightness of the lives taken far too soon. Conceived by several artists and designers who were then brought together under the auspices of the Municipal Art Society and Creative Time, the design is an iconic symbol of collective remembrance that continues to light the sky each September 11.
