Flag motifs were painted on the sides of barns and city buildings. The flag appeared on T-shirts, lapel pins, bumper stickers, and holiday decorations. Some people felt so strongly about the flag that they included the Stars and Stripes in tattoos commemorating the attacks. Together Americans gave each other strength and hope for the future.
