This book is a tribute to the search and rescue dogs who worked on September 11 and during the recovery efforts. Artist Ron Burns honors what he calls “heroic dogs,” including the search-and-rescue, bomb-detection, therapy, and guide dogs who support humans before, during and after times of terror and crisis.
The cover image is of Sirius, a bomb-detection dog who died in the collapse of the South Tower. When Sirius’ remains were recovered from the rubble of the World Trade Center, they were given the same honors accorded lost firefighters and other rescuers.
