On 9/11, the NYPD responded to the World Trade Center in the moments following the crash of hijacked Flight 11 into the North Tower. Nearly 2,000 NYPD officers were deployed that morning. In total, 23 of New York's Finest lost their lives in the line of duty. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The angels were created by Keith Piaseczny, artist and founder of ArtAID, whose guardian angel designs have become important and inspirational symbols of tribute and healing in response to 9/11. The angels have been used in tributes and memorial services and can be seen hanging in firehouses and police precincts. The 9/11 Memorial Museum collection contains some of the original angel posters that were hung at and around Ground Zero.
